Kansas City's girlfriend, Taylor Swift, named Time Magazine's 2023 Person of the Year
The music icon finally opened up about her relationship with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, her wildly popular Eras Tour and more in a new interview with Time
Kansas City is now permanently and inextricably linked to Taylor Swift in what very well may go down as the apex of the music icon's popularity. The 12-time Grammy winner's massive year proved to be far from over Wednesday after Time Magazine named Swift its Person of the Year. Her wildly successful Eras tour and concert movie, a reclamation of her album ‘1989’ and domination of streaming platforms defined 2023 musically — her blooming relationship with one of the NFL's biggest stars has kept her front and center in the world's collective imagination. Swift was selected for the distinction among a group of nine finalists that included the likes of King Charles III and even Barbie. The singer-songwriter sat down with the magazine to unpack her 2023. The wide-ranging interview touches on a plethora of personal details, along with her many successes culturally and commercially. The feature also included Swift finally opening up about her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Swift, who has a track record of dating artists over athletes, playfully joked about becoming a fan of football through her new relationship. “Football is awesome, it turns out,” she said in her interview with Time. “I’ve been missing out my whole life.”She also clarified for the first time exactly when her relationship with Kelce began — notably, long before her first trip to Arrowhead Stadium for a game. “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift said. “We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.” The international star also discussed the attention she receives for simply attending games. She says her primary motivation for heading to Arrowhead is supporting Kelce, not appearing on TV broadcasts. “There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when then camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.” she said. “I’m just there to support Travis,” she says. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”You can read her full interview with Time, here.
