Adam Driver jokes that 'wokeness killed Han Solo' in 'SNL' monologue - Entertainment Weekly News

Adam Driver is live from New York with a piano and a wish list that only Santa can fulfill.

The Ferrari star kicked off his his fourth stint as the host of Saturday Night Live by telling the crowd of Studio 8H all about his “deep and personal relationship” with old St. Nick. He then showed off his piano skills before inviting the world to watch his yearly ritual of reciting his Christmas list to Santa — an avid SNL viewer, even though he hasn’t liked it since Chris Kattan left.

“Hey, Santa! It’s me, Adam Driver. From the nice list... and also Girls,” the actor began, whilst tickling the ivories. “I turned 40 this year, Santa, so I’d like five pairs of chinos.”

After slipping in a request for a “giant metal Tesla truck,” Driver continued rattling off his increasingly unhinged list by asking Santa to handle the angry Star Wars fans who still hold a grudge against his character, Kylo Ren.

“I would like people to stop coming up to me on the street saying, ‘You killed Han Solo,’” Driver declared, before joking in deadpan, “I didn’t kill Han Solo. Wokeness killed Han Solo.”

The actor, who in the latest Star Wars trilogy played the son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), recently revealed that he is never allowed to forget about that controversial scene in The Force Awakens.

“Somebody reminds me about that every day,” he said on a recent episode of Who's Talking to Chris Wallace. He lated conceded, “Not every day, but yeah. It used to be more, but now it's probably once a month somewhere.”

While it's a big enough life issue to earn a spot on Driver's Christmas list, the Hollywood star had plenty of other oddly specific requests for Santa. Turning his attention to the world’s purest evil — social media — Driver said, “You know those TikToks, like those couples that do pranks on each other? Can you kill those people?”

On a lighter note, the Star Wars alum also asked Santa to drop off a gingerbread house, but even that request took a dark turn. “Do you think a gingerbread man gets scared when he realizes the house is made of his own skin?” Driver wondered aloud before addressing the audience. “That’s a cute one. You can tell your kids that one.”

It's certainly not the actor's first time poking fun at the sci-fi franchise. When he helmed SNL in 2016, he debuted a beloved Undercover Boss spoof that saw baddie Kylo Ren posing as a blond radar technician named Matt at his own Starkiller Base. The viral sketch earned a sequel when Driver came back to host in 2020.

While “Matt” didn’t make another grand return this Saturday, Driver flexed his comedy muscles elsewhere as a 70-year-old veteran tired of being pranked, the neurotic host of holiday dinner, and so much more.
