Musician William Hart passed away on Thursday at the age of 77 in Philadelphia.
The artist was best know as the lead singer of the hit 1960s band The Delfonics which put out the hit songs Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time) and Ready or Not Here I Come (Can't Hide from Love).
His son Hadi shared the sad news about Hart, whose nickname was Poogie, with TMZ on Friday morning.
William was having trouble breathing so he taken to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, his son shared with the site.
The crooner, who was born in Washington DC, died from complications during surgery, it was added.
The star got his start in the 1960s when he formed a band with his brother Wilbert named The Orphonics, which they renamed The Delfonics.
Also in the group was Randy Cain, Ritchie Daniels and Thom Bell.
Their hit songs were primarily written/composed and produced by William, however, who was the heartbeat of the band, as Bell also helped with the writing.
Their first recording, He Don't Really Love You b/w Without You was released on the small Moon Shot Records in around August 1966.
The second Delfonics' recording, You've Been Untrue, was released in April 1967.
In December 1967 La-La (Means I Love You) was first released to the local Philadelphia market; the single became a hit in 1968, selling over one million copies.
Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time) also sold a million copies and by March 1970 received a gold disc from the R.I.A.A.
The original band split in 1975.
The Delfonics won a Grammy Award in 1971 for Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time) for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group, Vocal Or Instrumental.
And several of their songs made their way into movies such as Jackie Brown, Crooklyn and The Family Man.
The Delfonics kept performing with various members and new artists during the 1980s and 1990s.
In 2007, Hart recorded a CD with Russell Thompkins, Jr., original lead singer of The Stylistics and Ted Mills of Blue Magic entitled The Three Tenors of Soul.
Hart also sang in a variety of groups including Little Hart and The Everglows, the Veltones, the Four Guys, and the Four Gents.
